Blackbird Song

About this Song:

Moira: Dusk is my favourite time of day, when the world seems to pause while the blackbird sings his pure, crystalline notes and the sun relinquishes the sky to the moon and stars.

Siobhan: A pretty simple setup with piano, horns, strings and a flute representing the crystalline notes from the blackbird song. The musicbox at the end is like a nice lullaby. Sleep well.

Lyrics:

BLACKBIRD SONG

Blackbird, sing into the fading light
Here in the dusk, dividing day and night
Each note so pure and clear
As one by one the silent stars appear
Blackbird, don’t fly away too soon
But raise your voice to the falling sun
And the rising moon

Shadows stretch and the light grows old
Blackbird’s throat is lined with gold
Love and hope hold sway
While we’re under the gaze of the Milky Way
Oh Blackbird, don’t leave me too soon
But sing your song to the shy little stars
And the smiling moon

But sing that song to the shy little stars
And the smiling moon

Here They Come Again

About this Song:

Moira: People who know me well have frequently told me that I go over and over old grievances in my mind instead of just letting them go and looking ahead. So I thought I’d write a song about it!

Siobhan: Jazz, Easy Listening. I love the  James Bond Movie Themes – So I tried to setup one with Moira’s fantastic voice. The song is about a fight against these bad thought – James Bond enemies are also like unwanted ”family members”. Orchestra (Brass / Strings), Piano, Bass Guitar, Synthetic Drums.

Lyrics:

HERE THEY COME ROUND AGAIN

Here they come round again
Those tormenting thoughts of now and then
I’ve always tended to be this way
I inhabit the present
But I was made yesterday

Here they come round again
Those painful thoughts of now and then
They’re not my friends
More like family members
Causing regret whenever I rake over the embers

People always tell me
I’m an angry person inside
I keep an eternal flame burning
Wherever dark memory resides

I should bury the hatchet
Unsettle the score
But when I recall an injustice
I’m flexing my claws

Here they come round again
Those bitter thoughts of now and then
I’ve always been this way
I cling to the present
But I was made yesterday

It has been my experience
When stepping into the light
The next step might take you
To an endless night

Here they come round and round and round again
Those bitter thoughts of now and then

I cling to the present
But I was made long ago

The Wrong Girl

Release Date: February 26th, 2016

The Wrong Girl is a chill Jazz, Pop, Singer/Songwriter album. The lyrics and music create stories and explore the many moods of love, heartbreak and loneliness.

Moira Waugh is a spellbinding storyteller with her lyrics. She delivers them with captivating sincerity and a beautiful, expressive voice. Siobhan Dakay composes sensitive jazzy pop compositions to amplify Moira’s vocals. When you listen to The Wrong Girl, you’ll hear their natural affinity.

Every day I see and hear stories all around me,” Moira Waugh shares. “People are doing or saying something that catches my attention and automatically I start imagining what sort of lives the people are leading, how they are feeling and what are the reasons behind the scenes I’ve glimpsed or snippets of conversation I’ve overheard. What would it be like to be them? My songs are really ideas for short stories or longer fiction condensed into song lyrics.

I musically grew up in the 70s/80s,” Siobhan Dakay remarks about his roots. “When you grow up as a child listening to Bacharach, Carpenters and even ABBA and experience your first heartbrokenness listening to The Smiths, The Cure and The Bible, these feeling and emotions automatically influence the creative process of building harmonies

Lyrics:

The ghosts are here, needing to be fed
With answers to the questions of the restless dead
There are dark thoughts circling in my head
I wish I’d listened to everything they said

The ghosts are here, they’re not laid to rest
They cluster round my bed at night and put me to the test
In some secret corner I knew I’d rue the day
I didn’t make more effort, I went my own way

The ghosts are here with their gift of guilt
My failures sewn together to make a shabby quilt
They say they forgive me – that I should forget
But I miss them still and I’ll always feel regret

The ghosts are here, needing to be fed
With answers to the questions of the restless dead
There are dark thoughts circling in my head
I wish I’d listened to everything they said

The ghosts are here, they’re not laid to rest
The ghosts are here, with their gift of guilt
The ghosts are here, the ghosts of December

How Lucky I Am

About this song:

Moira:
In 2009, when I became seriously interested in singing, I was offered two wonderful songs written by (my now Husband) the singer songwriter Mark Bass . I chose to record ‘How Lucky I Am’ because it is one of the sweetest, prettiest love songs I’ve ever heard.

Siobhan:
When I heard the accapella the first time (and knowing that Mark and Moira liaise) I immediately thought about „Captain Of My Heart“ by the Band Double. Not that the lyrics are related but I kind of had such a setup in mind. When I started developing the chords I tried kind of to adopt some of the structure of that song which also was one of my favorite songs back in 1985. So with this backtrack I drag my head for Kurt Maloo and Felix Haug.

Lyrics:

Our love’s been a long time coming, building deep inside
Gonna be the love too strong to hide. Everybody’s gonna know,
they’ll look at us and smile, good love’s even better when it take a while.
I can take the old folks laughing, their knowing little smiles
I can take the talk about us, it’ll go away after a while
And I’ll be loving you, the only love I ever needed
when all is said and through. I think about you all the time
You know I do. How lucky I am
To be with you

And I hope you feel the same way twenty years from now
Glad we’ve found each other somehow.
A love like ours only come along one time if at all
The waiting on that one time really worth the fall.
I don’t care about your past, don’t care who you’ve done
Just want us to be together, two lives lived as one and I’ll be loving you.
The only love I ever needed when all is said and through
I think about you all the time, you know I do
How lucky I am
How lucky I am
How lucky I am
To be with you
